OR HOW I MANAGED TO QUIET THE CONSTANT CHATTER IN MY MIND

For as long as I can remember, my mind was always busy—buzzing with thoughts,
ideas, and endless inner dialogue. As a child, student, and later as an adult, I thought this was simply part of being a creative person. My thoughts were where ideas took root and grew (in all directions).
When I worked in the fragrance industry, my mind was perpetually active— developing new concepts, collaborating with perfumers, presenting proactive ideas to clients, and analyzing market trends. Even when I took time for my passion of photography (where being in the moment is essential) the chatter never ceased. Is this angle better? Should I use a wide lens or zoom in? My mind wasn’t giving up! A constant hum of analysis and reflections that seemed impossible to quiet.
I can remember that even as a child I longed for an off switch, a way to silence the endless noise in my head. The conversations, judgments, and mental debates were exhausting, and they cast a shadow on what should have been moments of peace. For a long time, I didn’t think that switch existed—until I began practicing yoga and meditation.
Yoga was the first step to discovering moments of stillness. It wasn’t immediate or consistent, but during certain practices, I felt glimpses of calm. As my practice deepened, I started meditating. Now, after more than a decade of daily meditation, I can say I have finally found that elusive switch.
It didn’t happen overnight, and meditation is not always a state of bliss. Some
days, the mind resists. But looking back, I can see how much has changed. The
relentless chatter has softened. If my mind used to resemble the stormy sea
during a tempest, it now feels more like a steady current. There are still winds and
waves, but I know that one day, with practice, it may feel like a serene summer
lake. Practice is the key! Showing up and mediating despite the resistance of the mind. Meditation is a practice of showing up for yourself, even on the days when the mind feels restless or resistant. The key is consistency—committing to the practice, no matter how imperfect, allows the mind to gradually soften and the stillness to grow.
Meditation has made me a happier person. It has taught me to focus on what
truly matters, to let go of negativity, and to nurture the essential things in life.
Through meditation, I’ve gained self-awareness, staying power, and a sense of peace that radiates outward. This self-enquiry has fostered self-love and helped
me connect to a higher vibration of myself.Meditation allows us to discover the stillness within and to move towards grace.
It is a journey, and the beauty lies in the transformation along the way.
